I wonder if it's like watching the early Star Trek episodes where the "high tech" of the future as imagined in that time looks so hokey now. The sci-fi movies of the fifties that had special effects that were considered amazing then, look so lame now. I'll have to read one of those old short stories to see if they've fared any better than the movies.
