Well, I received a summons for Jury Duty today. GRRR. I don’t mind the whole civic duty thing, at least in concept. But I don’t understand why I get called every 5-6 years, while many others have never gotten called. So you go down to the courthouse, sit around and see if you’re needed. If not, repeat the next day. But it’s worse is if you actually get selected. Last time, I sat on a personal injury case (which is the norm out here in lawsuit hell). Over several days we did at most 2-3 hours of actual “work”, between recesses and sidebars and general sitting/standing around. Then, right as the arguments were winding down, they decide to settle. Wasted, wasted time. Did I mention it was a massive waste of time? Anyway, the image above is the courthouse.

I've had jury duty 3 times in my life, but only got to be on a jury for one case - purse snatching. The rest of the time was just spent waiting, waiting, waiting.
5-8 years, consider yourself fortunate. Here your number comes up every 2 years.
I know know its a cival duty but I dislike the "waste" of time too.
I've never been called for jury duty, but I've been in court countless times, and the amount of sitting around is mind-numbing. I had one case where it took a WEEK just to chose a jury.
