Heinz Chapel

I was doing some clean-up of my phone's photo library, and came across this photo from July 2018.  I don't see any evidence that I ever did anything with it.  This was on the front end of a pretty busy time, too many good photos in too short a window.

Anyway, I decided to resurrect this one, and post it over at my Instagram site.  This is Heinz Chapel on the University of Pittsburgh campus.  Taken about 10 minutes before sunset.  This would've been when we dropped our son off at Pitt for his Business School pre-semester class.

You knew I had an Instagram site, right?

Patience

Yet another from Pittsburgh's Point State Park...  This gentleman was fishing the river.  He didn't catch anything while I was around...

Get The Point?

On a recent trip to Pittsburgh, I managed a short trip to Point State Park.  Point State Park is located where the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers join to form the Ohio River...  This fountain was dedicated in the summer of 1974, just before I stared High School (and lived in Pittsburgh).

This was the first time I've visited the park in many years, probably the mid 1990's.  Not too surprising since I haven't lived within 600 miles of Pittsburgh in 30 years, and don't get to town real often.

Anyway, this was shot on a Saturday afternoon, and it took a little bit of doing to get this shot, with only one person evident.

It wasn't until I posted it to my 365 project that I realized (after somebody pointed it out) that the woman is on her cell phone.  Guess it's the 2010's, after all.  At least she's not taking a duck-face selfie!

The 'Burgh

Pittsburgh, from Point Of View Park, on Mount Washington.  I spent (most of) my teen years as a Pittsburgh resident, and have visited often through the years.  Now I have a child at Pitt, so we may get up there more.

Which suits me fine.

Oh, and GO STEELERS!

Around The 'Burgh

From last week's trip to Pittsburgh / Univerity Of Pittsburgh.  A few non-campus shots:

It was grey and rainy almost the whole trip...  I saw these two while aiting for the elveator at the hotel (7th floor aspect).

Hot O Shop....  This is along Forbes Ave, in / around Pitt campus.  Looks like this place was here when I lived just up the road (in the 70's)...  but I don't remember.

Interesting remnants of something....    I came across this site by happenstance. Driving around the north hills of Pittsburgh (Shaler Township). Not sure what it was, but I thought it was pretty interesting.

Looks like a large loading bay facing the road.
The ramp at the back, going out of picture to the left crosses a stream, to (remains of) a small building by a railroad track. To the right is a large open field, presumably the former site of an industrial facility. The the main road (Rt. 8). I'm guessing this was some sort of depot for whatever factory used to be here.

Homeless....  We saw these two gentleman a couple of times over the 3 days...  Outside the CVS on Forbes Ave.

We passed though Cleveland on the way home.  This is actually Ohio City, on the west side of the Cuyahoga River from Cleveland.  Lots of effects here, to emphasize the lines....

... At The Old Ball Game!

Backstory:
I grew up in Pittsburgh,as a die-hard Pirates fan.  back in the 70's, when they were good.  In fact, I was fortunate enough to go to a game in the 1971 World Series.  Sadly, the Pirates have been pretty bad for decades...  two of them in fact.   And I haven't been to a Pirates game since well before they moved into thier "new" park.

Meanwhile, I've lived in the St. Louis area for longer than the Pireats have been losing.  And I've become a bit of a Cardinals fan.  And they've done rather well...  But I have reatined a soft spot for the Bucs.

ANYWAY:
The Pirates are on the verge of breaking their 20 year losing streak, and are challenging the Cards for 1st place in the division.  And the Cards were in Pittsburgh for the holiday weekend...  so....  ROAD TRIP!  My wife and son and I ran over to the steel city, and tookk in Sunday's game, along with my brother and (mst of) his family.  Lots of highway, burt lots of fun!  Cards won this game, but Bucs took the series.  And as of last night, the teams were tied with 4 weeks left in the season!

Big version of the  photo HERE.

Tell Me Why?

Taken on the wooded walk through the grounds at Fallingwater,Frank Lloyd Wright's Western Pennsylvania masterpiece.  Taken somewhere near the Bird's Eye View.  It was late afternoon (~4pm) on a very sunny day, very contrasty.  But I liked the views of the deep green leaves against the dark trunks.

Here's another attempt, but I don't like this one as much:

Travellin' Light

Just home from a week on the road, the 2013 Rust Belt Tour!  Just under 1,800 miles in 8 days.  Besides seeing some of my wife's family (Cleveland), and mine (Pittsburgh) we saw:

A great trip, but nice to be home.  I'll probably be posting more images friom the trip over the next few days, I have a bunch to sort through, hopefully some are decent.

The title is from a J.J. Cale song...
