A Good Crop 2025 - Video Photo Essay

We've made it to 2025, so it's time for another "Good Crop" photo review!  This year's video has been published to YouTube, give it a look!

The "Good Crop" concept is based on a Ansel Adams quote:  "Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop".   In the spirit of that quote, I try to pick my 12 favorite photos from the previous year. I've been doing this for 14 years now, so I guess that makes it a tradition!

A few months ago, I started a new twist, putting the "crop" into a video-essay, and dropping it on YouTube.  I've done videos for 2022, 2023, 2024 and now 2025.I'll probably do videos for more of the earlier years, if anybody wants to see them!

So here you go, A Good Crop 2025, Subtitled This Didn't Pass Quickly

Anyway, I made a Youtube video for the 2023 edition, will probably make similar videos for the other years.  Check it out, comments welcome:

t is my intention to keep doing these.  In fact, the 2022 version is ready to post to YouTube, and the 2025 "A Good Crop" is in progress (and will hopefully be ready in early January).  If people stay interested, I have "A Good Crop" sets going back to 2012.

A Good Crop - 2024

Regular readers should know that I usually do a post of my favorite images from the previous year.  Titled "A Good Crop", after Amsel Adam's quote "Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop".

In the spirit of Ansel Adams' quote, I've tried to pick my 12 favorite photos from last year (2024). I don't claim anything I've done to be "significant", especially by Ansel Adams standards.  So we'll stick with favorites)...

Meanwhile, I never got around to finishing / posting my selection for 2023, so that's next on my to-do list.

A Good Crop

Regular readers (should) know that I've done a series of posts through the years looking back at my "best" or favorite photos every year.  I call it "A Good Crop" in honor of an Ansel Adams quote: ""Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop".  Well, I was doing some maintenance on the blog today and realized I never did a 2023 edition!  I also never did a 2015 edition, but that's another story.

I guess I need to rectify that before it is time to do 2024!  STAY TUNED...

Meanwhile here's one of my most popular photos of 2023.  It received a 2nd Place badge, and a Photo-Of-The-Day recognition at BetterPhoto, as well as "Popular" and "Trending" at 365Project.  It'll be on the Good Crop list for sure!

A Good Crop - 2021

Regular readers may remember that I usually do a post of my favorite images from the previous year.  Titled "A Good Crop", after Amsel Adam's quote "Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop".  I was thinking about my "good crop" selections for 2022, and realized that I never got around to finishing / posting my selection for 2021!  I figured I should go on and do 2021 before thinking about 2022, and dug up my scratch sheet from 2021's photos.  So, a last pass at culling, and here you go:

In the spirit of Ansel Adams' quote, I've tried to pick my 12 favorite photos. I don't claim anything I've done to be "significant, especially by Ansel Adams standards.  So we'll stick with favorites)...

If you're interested, here's previous posts (I missed 2015):

A Good Crop - 2020

Late, as usual, but here's my "good crop" review of 2020:

Ansel Adams is credited with saying "Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop". In that spirit, I've tried to pick my 12 favorite photos each year, and post them here.  (I don't claim anything I've done to be "significant, especially by Ansel Adams standards.  So we'll stick with favorite)...

A Good Crop - 2019

I'm a little late with this one, I got sidetracked with the Trending project...  But better late than never.
