Throwback Thursday - Catface

This is one of the two cats we had back in the day. I don't remember which one, they were littermates (sisters).  This was taken in our townhouse in the DC area (Silver Spring, MD), pre-1989.  I'm thinking more like 1986 or '87?  Film, obviously.  And wide angle lens.  IIRC, it was converted to b&w whenever I scanned it to digital (probably early 2000s)

I've been enjoying making Spotify playlists based on my old various artist compilation records.  I've posted a few here, should make it a sei-regular thing.  Let me know if you enjoy them, I'll do/post more.

Today's playlist is from a record called 20 Monster Hits, a 1972 double album from Columbia House.

Not sure exactly when I purchased this one, I'd guess sometime in High School, but I'm not really sure.  It is certainly one of the older compilation records I own.

Here's the Spotify playlist, I was able to find all the songs:  VA - 20 Monster Hits

And the track list:

  • Looking Glass – Brandy
  • Redbone – The Witch Queen Of New Orleans
  • Blood, Sweat And Tears – You've Made Me So Very Happy
  • Argent – Liar
  • Hollies – He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother
  • Pacific Gas and Electric – Are You Ready?
  • Santana  – Evil Ways
  • Ten Years After – I'd Love To Change The World
  • Zombies – Time Of The Season
  • Byrds – Turn, Turn, Turn (To Everything There Is A Season)
  • Paul Revere And The Raiders – Indian Reservation
  • Donovan – Atlantis
  • Dr Hook – Sylvia's Mother
  • Laura Nyro – Eli's Comin'
  • Big Brother And The Holding Company – Piece Of My Heart
  • Sweathog – Hallelujah
  • Chase – Get It On
  • Poco – Pickin' Up The Pieces
  • The Buckinghams – Mercy, Mercy, Mercy
  • Steve Stills / Al Kooper – Season Of The Witch
Pretty solid mix of hits and deep cuts, nice range of styles and moods.  And a couple of hidden gems.

ENJOY!

The side entrances usually tell the longer story

Just a little something from earlier in the month.  Just an observational moment...  The kind of moment I noitce.

Early Spring — A Photo Essay

Early Spring, aka The World Resumes

I posted another photo-essay on Youtube recently, based on photos taken in March and April this year.  I rather like it, please check it out and leave a comment!

a commonplace photograph

No amount of toying with shades of print or with printing papers will transform a commonplace photograph into anything other than a commonplace photograph.

Spotify - Various Artists: Do It Now: 20 Giant Hits

Still sorting through my piles of vinyl, and still making Spotify playlists based on Various-Artists albums from way back when. This is from one of the first albums I remember owning, from way back in 1970. From Ronco Records, no less! The record is long gone, but the internet provided the song list. So here you go:

Throwback Thursday - Red Columbine

Another pre-digital photo...  Probably taken  in the late 1990's, but posted to Betterphoto (RIP) back in June 2003.  It is possible this was scanned near that 6/03 date, I had an inexpensive flatbed scanner back then (before printer/scanners were even a thing.  Probably tweaked with MGI-Photo Suite, which was the first photo software I learned.  It came bundled on one of our home computers.  I went through a (mercifully short) period where I added these color-matched border....

Throwback Thursday

My son, when he was just a sprout.  He's 26 now, so yeah, throwback.  Probably mid/late 2003.

Leclair Park

Continuing my series on walking trails.  Mostly in our general area, though that may expand after a trip or two.

Today's post is Leclaire Park, Edwardsville, IL.  A quiet spot nestled in the historic Leclaire neighborhood.  A quiet, little, spot, just over 5 acres.  A walk around the perimeter was only 0.41 mile, though I did do more than just the 1 loop...  I've only been here a few times, but it would be a regular spot if I lived nearby, and still had young kids.

Throwback Thursday

This is one of my oldest digital pictures to be posted online.  This was posted to (defunct) BetterPhoto 5/2003.  I remember posting this one to my 1st online photo site, which was through Americal On Line.  From my Kodak LS443 Silver Lake Park, Highland, IL, maybe a little before that.

The original file for this is awol, possibly on an old hard-drive pulled from a dead computer.  This was downloaded from BetterPhoto on their last day active.

Vintage Rock (Various Artists)

I posted about 10 days ago about a Spotify Playlist I made based on an old Various Artists compilation record I had. Well. I've done it again! This is an album from 1980, on K-Tel records, titled "Vintage Rock". It's a really nice collection of songs, check it out!

Joe Glick Park

Continuing my series on walking trails.  Mostly in our general area, though that may expand after a trip or two.

Today's Post is Joe Glick Park, in Edwardsville, IL.  Another nice, open area, apparently ~40 acres.  They have a nice lake, play structures, pavilions, b-ball courts, a dog-park, etc.  Lots of open space, and a few sculptures.

By stacking a few loops on the paved trails, I was able to get a bit over 1.5 miles.  Nothing dramatic, but more interesting than our typical rails-to-trails options.
