Capture52 - 52 Week Challenge - 2022 edition - Week 16

So, there's a photography thing, Capture52, where they provide a weekly topic and you're challenged to take a photo based on it.    I discovered it on 365project a couple of years ago, and have dabbled with it a couple of times.  But I've never made it far into the year, never close to all 52 weeks.  But I'm giving it another shot in 2022.  It'll be interesting to see.  Besides their Facebook group (which has almost 2,400 members), and 365project, there's an Instagram hashtag, I'm trying to post to all three.  You can see how my year progresses by clicking on my tag:  52weekchallenge2022 - 16 weeks and still rocking!

Week 16 (16 April - 22 April) Tell a story This week your challenge is to capture a compelling image that tells a story

April 1972 on the Music Charts

Continuing the series of hits -of-the-month, moving to April 1972.  Fifty years ago (Yikes!)

There were 5 weeks in April of 1972, and there were 59 songs that spent time in the Top 40.  That's pretty much on pace with January's 60 (5 weeks), February's 54 (4 weeks) and March's 56 (4 weeks).  And over those 5 weeks, only 2 songs topped the charts:  America's "A Horse With No Name" continued at #1 for the first 2 weeks (3 total), followed by Roberta Flack's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" over the last 3 weeks of April.

Here's the top 10 songs of the month, ranked by average chart position over the 4 weeks of the month:

  1. A Horse With No Name - America - 2.6
  2. The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - Roberta Flack - 3.2
  3. I Gotcha - Joe Tex - 3.8
  4. Rockin' Robin - Michael Jackson - 4.4
  5. Heart Of Gold - Neil Young - 6.8
  6. In The Rain - The Dramatics - 7.6
  7. Puppy Love - Donnie Osmond - 8.4
  8. Betcha By Golly, Wow - The Stylistics - 8.6
  9. Day Dreaming - Aretha Franklin - 10.6
  10. A Cowboys Work Is Never Done - Sonny and Cher - 11.2

Sort of a mixed bag in the Top 10 this month, not that many classics (in my humble opinion).

Meanwhile, Twenty-two (22) made their Top 40 debut. Againm a but of a mixed bag  Here they are (listed by entering position):

  • Morning Has Broken - Cat Stevens - 27
  • Back Off Boogaloo - Ringo Starr - 31

One Subject April

One of the photo sites I frequent does a challenge for April: "pick a subject and then think of a new and different way to take a picture of if every day..." I missed it last year, but in 2020 I shot 30 photos of an Oak tree. I'm already a day late this year, but going to try for around the house/yard. I was cleaning the gutters today, so here you go!

Note:  if you want to join in, I've also started a hashtag at instagram:  30

Week 13 (26 Mar – 1 April) Something you made We all make things whether it be a cup of coffee, a meal or an elaborate art/craftwork. Show us what you made. No photo’s of your kids. Yes you made them, but think of something else.

Boy, I struggled with this. I'm just not all kind of creative (outside photography), After much consternation, I came up with this. I had the opportunity in my job (a few years ago) to write technical papers for industry conferences, and I have a notebook of most of them. This one is from 2004 and titled "Harmonic Sharing for Effective Detection of Transformer Inrush Condition in Differential Protection Schemes"...

It's been over 10 years since I've had the opportunity to write / present a paper, life has led me in ther directions.
