On Saturday, 3/17/1973 (38 years ago) the Top 10 songs in the USA were:
1 Killing Me Softly With His Song - Roberta Flack
2 Dueling Banjos - Eric Weissberg & Steve Mandell
3 Love Train - O'Jays
4 Theme From '2001' (Also Sprach Zarathustra) - Deodato
5 Last Song - Edward Bear
6 Cover of the Rolling Stone - Dr. Hook Rock
7 Could It Be I'm Falling In Love - Spinners
8 Neither One Of Us (Wants To Be The First To Say Goodbye) - Gladys Knight & The Pips
9 Daddy's Home - Jermaine Jackson
10 Danny's Song - Anne Murray
Some great songs here…. And a pretty eclectic gathering, too. I have 8 of these 10, and don’t remember the other 2 at all. Probably my favorite in the batch is Also Sprach Zarathustra. Though Cover Of The Rolling Stone is pretty close…
Also Sprach Zarathustra is labeled as “Theme from 2001”, but it is not at related to that movie. This jazz version of Strauss’ work was used in the Peter Sellers movie “Being There” (but not as the theme). One of the kinds of things you don’t hear on pop radio anymore. Or Dueling Banjos, for that matter. Which is also from a movie, of course (Deliverance).
The picture is a real oldie, back in early fall of 1996, pre-digital. Taken on a bicycle excursion, near Belknap IL. I don't know, it kind of seemed to have a "Deliverance" feel....
