American Top 40 - June 1, 1961

OK, new twist on the AT40 thing.  I plan to spotlight a different year each day of the month.  From 1961 (June 1st) through 1990 (June 30th).  We'll see how it goes.

So today?, What was on the charts 6/1/1961?  Based on the charts released 5/29/1961:

1. Travelin' Man - Ricky Nelson
2. Daddy's Home - Shep and The Limelights
3. Running Scared -  Roy Orbison
4. Mama Said - Shirelles
5. Mother-In-Law - Ernie K-Doe

 Hmm, I actually recognize 4 of those songs, but Running Scared is the only one I have.  Still, not too bad considering I was 11 months old at the time....

• Stand By Me - Ben E, King (#13, rocketing up from 28 the previous week)
• Hello Mary Lou - Ricky Nelson (#16)

One interesting note....  Along with Mother-In-Law at #5, how about Son-In-Law, with 2 versions on the charts (Louise Brown at #76, Blossoms at #79) and Brother-In-Law (He's a Moocher) by Paul Peek at #84.  What's with that?
