He Ain’t Good lookin’ But He Sure Can Play
On the car stereo today: Elvin Bishop’s album “Struttin’ My Stuff”. This is a fun southern rock offering from 1975. Dubbed to tape from my original vinyl. Despite the laid back hit “Fooled Around and Fell In Love”, this album has a very funky swinging sound, somewhat reminiscent of Capricorn Records stable-mate Wet Willie. There’s a great up-tempo cover of the Tempations’ “My Girl”, but also the rather crude “Slick Titty Boom”. Trivia notes: Mickey Thomas was lead singer on “Fooled Around And Fell In Love”. Mickey went on to join Jefferson Starship in 1979.
