It rained during the "Big Tent" revival tonight. But it didn't put a damper on the festivities! Tonight was the last night, complete with a Pig Roast diiner. Good Stuff! But I couldn't resist the artsy photo...

Your Mama Don't Dance And Your Daddy Don't Rock And Roll
So. We're driving someplace over the weekend, and the Loggins & Messina hit comes on the radio. I don't think I even noticed at the time. But part way though the song, my son pipes up from the back seat: "That's song is backwards. "cause my daddy don't dance, and my mama don't rock and roll".
.
.
.
He's right, of course. At least in the sense that his Daddy does rock n roll, and certainly doesn't dance.

Big Tent
We're doing an event at our Church this week, "Big Tent". Common Grounds Ministry is visiting from Oklahoma, doing a Tent Revival in our parking lot: good stuff. Sunday through Wednesday evenings. Anyway, I helped set up the tent on Saturday. A little more involved than the last tent I set up... It was a fun experience, and a great service last night (complete with potluck!).
Plus, we had a combined service under the tent Sunday morning, and the Praise Band got to play on the outdoor stage (with their professional sound system)! Pretty cool (though actually HOT).
.
I think the last time I played "outside" was The Reallys, in our family's garage during a neighborhood block party (with the doors open, of course!)..... probably 1979? I'll always remember my dad groovin to our version of "Glad All Over" that evening. But now I'm digressing.

Beaver Byproduct
At least I presume this trwew was felled by a beaver. For All I know, it could've been a scout with a hatchet...
This was taken yesterday at the scout camp, done by the lake at the amphetheater. We were between rain showers so I decided to snap a couple photos between snapshots of the kids working.
All in all, I'm not overwhelmed with this one, but hopefully it isn't too bad. A little crop, lvels, convert to B&W, spot levels, add a touch of sepia tone, cloning out a couple of minor spots, and voila! I hope y 'all like it, at least a little. I probably should've sjot it in "landscape", too....
Just for giggles, the "straight form the camera version is below...

Mud
My wife and I spent most of today at scount camp w/our 10 y/o son. It rained most of the day, which turned the campground into a bit of a mudhole. But everybody still seemed to have a good time, in between bouts of cold & wet. On the other hand, I'm glad that we had previously decided not to camp out: a warm (dry) bed will be nice after 10 hours in the elements...

Rural-ness
My office is probably within 15 miles of the St.Louis arch (Exit 12 off I-64). And if I go just a few miles further east, I'm in farmland. It's nice for a lunchtime drive, a short escape from the pace of the day... It was a rather gray day today, which lead to washed out skies, but I still found a couple of interesting views:

Pow'r Pole!
Yeah, I know. But I can't help myself. And actually, I did have an ulterior motive. Besides just being a power system geek, This kind of photo gives a good test for a digital camera. These nice blue skies tend to be a challenge for noise. And lots of crisp edges with high contrast. can show up everything from sharpness to the dreaded "purple fringing"... And though you can't see it from the reduced version above, my new little PnS did just fine. See below for a snip from the original, at 100%, straight from the camera. Not bad for the price-point.
