Owl

As we were leaving boy scout camp yesterday, we saw rather large bird fly from the ground to a perch about 5-6' up a tree.  When we got closer, we saw that it was an owl.  We eatched him (her?) for a minute or two, but didn't get out of the car or try and get closer.  Pretty cool.

It is impressive how well it blended with the tree.  The image was taken at about 6pm.   If we hadn't seen it land, we'd've never seen it.  Any owl-experts out there?  What kind of owl is this??  Barred?
