Photography is all about the light. The right light will make or break a photo. This photo would have been pretty good with a deep blue sky and a few fluffy clouds. On an overcast day, however, it's rather dull.
On the other hand, some of the other photos taken at the same time are helped by the soft lighting, like this and this. All three images were taken within 15 minutes and 1/4 mile of each other. Sadly, it's also 3.5 hours from my home, just a rest stop on the road to Chicago.
