February 9 is Carole King's birthday!
King is one of the great names in pop/rock music, as a writer, and performer. A double inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and much deserved. Her 1971 album Tapestry is one of the greatest albums of all time. It was selected Album of the Year, received Grammys for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Record of the Year ("It's Too Late"), and Song of the Year ("You've Got a Friend"). The album remained on the Billboard charts for 313 weeks (second only to Pink Floyd's 724 weeks with The Dark Side of the Moon). In 2003, it ranked number 36 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Prior to that, she was an accomplished songwriter, often working with Gerry Goffin.
Some of my favorite Carole King songs:
- Pleasant Valley Sunday - The Monkees
- As We Go Along - The Monkees
- Take A Giant Step - The Monkees
- Up On The Roof - The Drifters
- Don't Bring Me Down - The Animals
- Jazzman - Carole King
- I Feel the Earth Move - Carole King
- It's Too Late - Carole King
