Just a little something I saw, driving along Rt. 6 west of Golden, CO.  Pretty sure this is near where Rt. 6 joins I-70 (Exist 244), but I turned around here and went back the same way I came.

UPDATE:  Digging around w/ Google Maps, Google Earth and Streetview, I found the location:

St. Mary's Cross

Another from late June's Mission Trip to Joplin, MO.  this is the Cross from St. Mary's Church.   Everything excetp th cross was destroyed in the tornado, and it (the Cross) has been preserved as a memorial.

Colorado Sunset

Discerning readers will have deduced that I've been in Colorado the past few days.  On business (of course), but I was able to manage a few photos on the side.  Below is last night's sunset:

This is a short walk from my hotel, looking towards Golden, with South Table Mountain on the near left. This was taken about 200 yards from the image posted Tuesday.  Tweaked on my iPad on the flight home.  A little bit of #photoshopexpress and a touch of #snapseed.  Nice way to pass some time on the flight!

The title is from a Stephen Stills song.  Actually written by Rick Roberts, but I first knew the Stills version.  Roberts wrote and released when he was with Flying Burrito Brothers.  Which was before he (Rick Roberts) founded Firefall.  Who will be performing at The Wildey this fall.  Without Rick Roberts, though.  Got it?

Discarded carts

Wandering around Wheat Ridge Colorado, and I came across this cache of discarded shopping carts.

It was oddly not particularly near anything....  off in a little "cove".  For some reason it made me think of old movies where hunters would talk about Elephant Graveyards, from old movie lore.

My son took this one, but with my camera...  Last week, he was at a music camp (Camp Electric) in Nashville, and they had concerts every evening.  There's several decent photos.  I rather liked this one (after some tweaking)....

I was actually able to find all but one of of these songs on Spotify. And added to a playlist. Right now it includes through September 1974, and 164 of the 175 songs which entered the Top 40 in the 1st 9 months of 1974. I'm pretty impressed that they have almost 94% of these songs...

New Year's Resolution - Update #5

Half The Way There.........

We reached the 1/2 point of 2014 on 7/2, I'm late with my accountability update...  Trying to keep those goals S.M.A.R.T. And in the spirit of accountability, I’ll publish my progress… SO, what did I resolve?

You may recall that the last decile was "mostly bad"...  I'd like to say I got back on track, but that wouldn't be exactly true.  A super busy 5 weeks, both personally and at work.  But excuses are excuses.  Here's the specifics:


1) More Photography!  UPDATE #5:
Not too bad here.  Blog posting was up a LOTcompared to the same period in 2013.  But still WAY down compared to the previous 4 periods.  But, I was out of town for almost 20% of the period.  And I took almost 300 photos that week.  They're already making their way onto the blogs, Facebook, etc.
Give it a B-

2) More Walking!  UPDATE #5: 
As with last time:  Terrible.  Bad, bad, bad.  I finished the period barely over 1/3 of the same period last year.  BUT,  not only am I way off my target pace, I'm 25% behind last year's actuals.  
Nothing but an F

3) Weight.  UPDATE #4:
I'm actually down a smidge from last period.  But only back to where I was. I've been mostly in a narrow range for about 10 weeks.  So it is not as bad as it could be.  But thats' a rather small consolation.

Sigh....  Gotta keep plugging, find a way.

Layered

Yet another from the Joplin trip.  Looks like this room had at least 5 layers of wallpaper....  None look particularly recent...

I'm not sure whwn the house was built, but one clue is an old fire station across the street (now The Joplin Host Lions Club).  According to the internet, that building was built in 1939.  The drain pipe from the toilet and was lead.  It appears lead drain pipes were common before 1925.  Anybody an expert on dating old buildings?

Another detail from the Wall Ave. house in Joplin...  This is the front porch light, not sure if it works or not.  there was some electric in the house, and it looks like the old wire has been replaced with new (yellow) wire.

Just something I read recently, that struck me.  It seemed relevant in light of my recent return from my first Mission Trip.  Thinking about the whole "justified by works and not by faith alone" thing....  The need to serve, but NOT for "human approval", or to "please people"...  And my own struggles with the "pride" trap.

Aise:  every source I looked at says Paul's intent in Galatians 1 is to restate the divine source of the Gospel (ref).  Which I get...  But it still made me think.

Kinsella Cabin Revisited

Just a phone picture, from today's ambling at Pleasant Ridge Park.  This is the Kinsella Log Cabin.  I've posted inages of this spot before (here and here), but this is a different feel.  I do wish they'ed do something about the cinderblock step at the entry.  It rathre detracts from the mid-19th century authenticity...  But the boarded up windows don't actly help, either.  This is a neat little cabin, it's a shame it's not better displayed.
