3/15/1975, Charlie Daniels Band debuted on the Top 40 with their Southern Rock anthem "The South's Gonna Do It". Although it peaked at 29 on the pop charts, it was, and is, a rebel classic. The song calls out 9 southern rock artists / bands, how many do YOU remember?

And Dickie Betts, of course, was in the Allman Brothers at the time, though he had put out one solo recording.
I'm surprised that "Uneasy Rider" didn't make the top 40...that song was all over the radio when it came out. Of course, I could have my recall of release dates screwed up.
I guess I need to be more PRECISE... I meant that the song made it's debut, not that it was CDB's first appearance on the charts. You are 100% right that "Uneasy Rider" was Top 40, and that it was before "South's Gonna Do It".
Uneasy rider was 7/1973, and peaked at #9... I even mentioned it last month:
