What Did You Leave us this Time?

Cat Stevens hit the Top 40 on this day (4/20) back in 1974 with his hit "Oh Very Young". This was before he found religion, changed his name to "Yusuf Islam", and dropped out of the music world. Of course, he started life as Steven Demetre Georgiou, so "Cat" was just an intermediate name. He's been Yusuf since 1978, so it seems to be working for him. "Oh very Young" made it to #10, by the way...

For some reason, O very young is probably one of my favorite Cat Steven's tunes, tied for first with Father and Son. it's too bad he can't enter our country for the next nine years.

Oh Very Young is my favorite Cat Stevens song, but I like most of his stuff. Typically, though, all of the Cat Stevens stuff in my music collection was "inherited" when I got married, from my wife's records!

certainly respect his political / religious views, even though I mine are different. I do wish he hadn't spent so much effort in the 80's distancing himself from the Cat Stevens years, repudiating his past, backing the repression of Salman Rushdie, etc......
