Album Cover Challenge #162

Still catching up on my Album Cover posts:  Anyway, the game is to take a semi-randomly selected album name and band name, and come up with a hypothetical album cover.

Album Cover Challenge #160

Wow, it's been a while since I posted one of these; the last I see is ACC-124, which dates from 3/2021, but was just posted here a couple of months ago. .  I'm going to have to look back and see how many I missed.  I did quit entering for a while, so maybe not many.  Anyway, the game is to take a semi-randomly selected album name and band name, and come up with a hypothetical album cover.

Album Cover Challenge #124

One of my favorite challenges over at 365project is the Album Cover Challenge, where you create a "mock" album cover, using randomly generated Band name and Album title.  I (usually) enjoy the opportunity to channel my inner Hipgnosis....   I went through a period of posting my entries here, then it fell by the wayside.  I'm trying to post the old ones, to catch up, as it were.

Album Cover Challenge #119

On 12/31/24, I posted my entry into the Album Cover Challenge #158.  It got me thinking, then checking...  It had been a rather long time since I had posted an Album Cover entry: 10 entries over 40+ rounds of the contest.  So I'm posting those entries over the next few weeks, filling in the backlog

One of my favorite challenges over at 365project, but also one I haven't been very active in this year.  I'm closing out the year with an entry into the 158th edition of the challenge.  I need to update the TAG, looks like I haven't cross posted here for quite a while.

ACC-116: Pica - What Is The Matter With You?

As you (ought to) know, one of my favorite challenges over at 365project is the Album Cover Challenege, where you take a randomly generated Band/Artist name, and a randomly generated album name, and make a mock album cover.  One of my favorites, and one I've entered pretty regularly.

Anyway, the 116th edition of the challenge is in voting right now.  I managed a finalist, and so far, I'm leading in votes.  If it holds, it will be my first ACC win of 2020.  I didn't win ACC in 2019, so I'll be pleased if I break the drought.  Over the past 18 months, there have been 18 editions of ACC, and I've entered 15 (83%).  And of those 15 entries, I have 11 finalists (76%).  But no winners.

So wish me luck!

Here's my entry:

ACC-115 : Stephen Speed / Per HÃ¥llberg

It's been a while (almost 6 months!?!) since I've posted a mock album cover here!  Shocking.
I guess I need to fill 'em in.  Anyway, here's the current round of the challenge, I did two entries.

Over at 365project, voting for Album Cover Challenge #115 is well underway.  I had 2 entries, one of which made finalist.  As a reminder, The challenge is to take a randomly generated band /artist name, and a randomly selected album name, and create an album cover.  Click on the link above if you want more details.

Anyway, here ya go:

This is the one that made finalist.  Not going to win, but that's not really the point.

Here's my second entry, I think I might like it better:

ACC-110: We Grow Too Fond Of It / Very Easy To Say Yes

Over at 365project, Album Cover Challenge #111 is well underway.  So looking back, here's my two entries to ACC110....  Yep, two entries this time.  Most of the challenges allow multiple entries, and sometimes I avail myself of the opportunity.  After all, This is one of my favorite challenges, as it combines two of my passions:  Photography and music.

Anyway, here ya go:

Jack Smith Cricketer - Very Easy To Say Yes

Band Artist is Jack Smith Cricketer. The random Wikipedia page was Jack Smith (cricketer), for a former English Cricket Player. I decided to drop the parentheses and make it one longer name. Because "Jack Smith" was rather boring.

Album title is "Very Easy To Say Yes" from a quote by Tony Blair: "The art of leadership is saying no, not yes. It is very easy to say yes."

The photo is an oldie, probably fall 2003 or 2004. It has been in the back of my mind for an Album Cover Challenge for a while, but I didn't have a fitting Band/Album until now.

My band name is from: Jacaré River (Bahia, Das Contas River)

My Album Name is from Robert E Lee quote: It is well that war is so terrible - otherwise we would grow too fond of it.

My first entry, "Very Easy To Say Yes", made finalist, but that's all...

On to ACC #111!!

ACC -107 - Moving On Faith - Something You Will Never Forget

Trying to catch up on my entries to the Album Cover Challenge over at 365project.  I'm behind, this is from ACC-107, ACC-110 is already running (and I've entered).   Anyway, this is one of my favorite challenges over there, as it combines two of my passions:  Photography and music.  Yee-Haw!  Details on the challenge here.  The challeneg has been run 11 times in 2019, I've entered 8, and received 6 finalists.  No wins, though.  This entry, for ACC-107 didn't make finalist (sad face)...

Anyway, my randomly generated band name was : Moving On Faith

And my randomly generated album name was "Something you will never forget" from the quote: "The mellow sweetness of pumpkin pie off a prison spoon is something you will never forget."

I like the graphic feel of this, but not the greatest Band/Album.  That's how random works sometimes.

ACC - 109 - Jan Hofmeyer - Strike that, reverse it

Time for another entry to the Album Cover Challenge over at 365project.  I'm behind, this is from ACC-109, ACC-110 is already running (and I've entered).  And I haven't posted my entry to ACC-107...  Need to get posting!

Anyway, this is one of my favorite challenges over there, as it combines two of my passions:  Photography and music.  Yee-Haw!  Details on the challenge here.

Anyway, my randomly generated band name was Jan Hofmeyer, defined as:  "a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. It is located in Region B of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality."

And my randomly generated album name was "Strike that, reverse it" from a Roald Dahl quote "We have so much time and so little to do. Strike that, reverse it."

I quite like this entry, but it didn't get a "Finalist" in the challenge.  Oh well, it's all for fun.

As with challenge #104, I decided to start with an old image.  Here's how it turned out:

Anyway, my randomly generated band name was "Goat Catfish".
And my randomly generated album name was "words in the English language"

As with challenge #104, I decided to start with an old image.  Here's how it turned out:

ACC104 - I Row After Health Like A Waterman

Time for my latest entry to the Album Cover Challenge over at 365project.  This is one of my favorite challenges over there, as it combines two of my passions:  Photography and music.  Yee-Haw!  Details on the challenge here.

Anyway, my randomly generated band name was "From A To Z-Z-Z-Z".
And my randomly generated album name was "I row after health like a waterman"

After some thought, I decided to start with an older image, which I though fit well.  And here's how it turned out:

And as I did last time, I came up with a various-artists song list of what I envision the band to sound like.  Complete with a spotify playlist.    In this case, I also added a little mock press release for my mock band, read it here (https://365project.org/lsquared/fourth/2019-05-15).

ACC103 - Frog and Toad - more often than not, unconsidered

Over at 365project, one of the ongoing challenges is to create mock album covers.  You select random band names and album covers, and then make an album cover.  (more details here).  It probably shouldn't surprise anyone that I especially dig this one, and play frequently.  On the other hand, I've only participated in about 40% of the 64 ACC challenges 4+ years, so I guess I shouldn't brag.

Anyway, here's my current entry, for the 103th edition of the game:

My (randomly selected) band name was "Frog and Toad", and my album title was "more often than not, unconsidered".

I took the photo last Sunday, it seemed to fit well for an album cover.

One of the commenters over at 365project suggested this could be a 70's Folk album, and I kind of like that idea.  Maybe something along the lines of Seals and Crofts, or Loggins and Messina.  Not a duo, but Jim Croce would fit too....

In fact, I decided to create a Spotify Playlist for the mock album.  Check it out here.  Some pretty recognizable artists, but I tried to stick with deeper cuts.
