Understated..

Guess they wanted to make sure the message was clear....  Something from the archives, July 2007.

Eastern Washington, 03/2003

Another oldie, from my humble Kodak DC-210.  Yesterday was from my first (and so far only) trip to Alaska, on business.  This is from one of my first (but far from only) trips to the Palouse Region of Southeast Washington State.

This is just a little north of Puillman, down one of the side roads off of Rt. 195...

North To Alaska

Way back in early March 2002, I had an opportunity to go to Alaska (on business).  "only" southern Alaska, Juneau & Ketchikan.  We had a little time to drive around and see some of the local environs.  Iy's a beautiful area, one day I'd like to go back as a tourist.

This was taken a bit southwest of Ketchikan.  I believe that's Annette Island across the water.  It's all part of Tongass National Forest, though.  This was taken with my first digital camera, Kodak DC210.  Pretty pathetic by today's standards, but it was better than nothing.

The Not-So-Holy Grail

My son earned his artist badge at scouts yesterday.  One of his projects was working with clay.  He decided to make a Holy Grail, then decided it turned out not-so-holy.....

Guess who saw Monty Python & The Holy Grail recently?

Bored

This is from last month, on the trip home from Florida.  We stopped at Hancock Fabrics, for my wife and daught to shop.  Such stops are often a chance for my son and I to toss a football or some such energy release, but it was TOO COLD that day.  So he was a little bored before long.  Bored enough to let me snap this...
It reminds me too much of my youth, when my mom would have to hit the fabric stores when we visited famile in North Carolina.   "When are you going to be DONE?"  it sounds the same from generation to generation.

Meanwhile, I rather like this photo.

Bad Weather? (pt.2)

This is a variation of my earlier post.  Actually from another exposure taken at the same time.  Closer crop, different aspect ratio (11x14), not converted to B&W....

I think I like this one better.  How 'bout y'all?

Bad Weather?

Just another photo out my window at work.  Yesterday we were transitioning from a couple of days in the 60's and 70's back to more normal February weather.  I don't think we're done with winter just yet.  This image isn't quite as good as the one I did a month ago, which is my (work) computer wallpaper these days.  I cropped this one 8x10, not sure if it justifies a print....  probably not.

The title (of course) refernces a song...  by Poco, off the album From The Inside

Genius?

No, not the Warren Zevon song.  Rather, the function in iTunes / iPad that creates a playlist based on a selected song.  When they first released it, I thought it did a rather poor job.  But over the past couple of days, I''ve been trying it more, and it seems more reasonable.  No Pandora, but not bad.

Today I started with J.J. Cale's song Soulin', from the album Really.  My iPod selected the following 24 songs:
  • JJ Cale - Too Much For Me & Playing In The Street
  • JJ Cale & Eric Clapton - Last Will And Testament & Who Am I Telling You
  • Steven Stills - How Far & Go Back Home & Johnny's Garden
  • Leon Russell - Delta Lady & Roll Away The Stone
  • Neil Young Albuquerque & The Losing End
  • Van Morrison - I've Been Working  & Virgo Clowns
  • Gillian Welch - Tear My Stillhouse Down & Only One And Only
  • John Prine - People Puttin' People Down & Fish And Whistle
  • Randy Newman - Rednecks & A Wedding In Cherokee County
  • Bob Dylan - Buckets Of Rain & Meet Me In The Morning
  • Elton John - I'm Going To Be A Teenage Idol
  • Talking Heads - The Big Country
  • Elvis Costello - You Belong To Me
Not bad, overall.  The one's at the bottom are a bit iffy (especially the EC one).

The photo is just a random thing from the archives, seemed to match the mood.

Love is…

In honor of Valentine’s Day: 1 Corinthians tells us “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” (1 COR 4-8, NIV)

Great stuff. But on a lighter note, what about music? Looking at my iPod, I found 21 individual songs whose titles start with “Love is….” Check out the occasional YouTube links..

Enough Already!

The mew last night said something about more snow today, but didn't sound like anything much.  So I woke up this morning, we've got about 3.5" and snowing hard.
I'm starting to get a mite tired of this.  At least it's Saturday, my son won't be missing yet another day of school (9 so dfar this year).  Ah well, this too shall melt.
