Another detail from the Wall Ave. house in Joplin... This is the front porch light, not sure if it works or not. there was some electric in the house, and it looks like the old wire has been replaced with new (yellow) wire.
The title is from the Mike Nesmith song, from Elephant Parts / Infinite Rider On the Big Dogma

Am I now seeking human approval, or God’s approval?
Am I now seeking human approval, or God’s approval? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still pleasing people, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:11 (NRSV)

Just something I read recently, that struck me. It seemed relevant in light of my recent return from my first Mission Trip. Thinking about the whole "justified by works and not by faith alone" thing.... The need to serve, but NOT for "human approval", or to "please people"... And my own struggles with the "pride" trap.

Hole In the Wall
Another detail from the Wall Ave. house in Joplin. This is after we pulled down the old drywall, and before we put up new. Not exactly what this hole was for, seems to have connected to a chimney (brick)... perhaps an original stove? Anyway, we made the command decision to cover it.
The "before" version can be seen here:
There's a B&W version over at Happenstance, which do you like more?
Oh, and (besides the obvious), the post title refers to a Bela Fleck song...

Locked In The Abstract
Just a little something. A detail I noticed while working on the Wall Ave. house in Joplin. This lock was attached to one of the upstairs doors. But notice that the hasp is broken, the door-frame part is gone
I found it interesting that this lock was on an interior, second floor door. And that it apparently failed to do its job somewhere along the way...
This is the house I worked on all week during our recent Mission trip. And this door led to the room where we did most of our work (besides the bathroom). I managed to grab several photos of details at the house, which should show up here (or at Happenstance) over time. Enjoy!
Back To Back

Joplin Promise
Photo Not By Me!
Posting has been very light lightly, but at this time I have a (pretty) good excuse. A week ago (6/22 <--> 6/28) I went on a Mission Trip with my son and a group from our church. My first Mission Trip, and his. We're on the left side of the photo, kneeling. I'm just now catching up.-->
We went to Joplin, Missouri, where we worked with Joplin Promise.
It was a pretty awesome week, and I was rather far outside of my comfortable little box. In a good way. I did take lots of photos, so expect some (the less snap-shot type) to appear here over the next few days or so.

Joplin, MO
Regular readers will have noticed that I've been far from regular in my posting recently. In fact, this is my first post in 10 days. Well, I actually have a decent excuse.
I've just (today) returned from a Mission Trip to Joplin, MO, with my son and 30 other youth and adults from our church. My first mission trip, as well as my son's. A really good experience, and quite a few photos to wade through. Expect more posts.
This image is from Joplin's Butterfly Garden and Overlook, in Cunningham Park, which was directly in the path of the historic 2011 EF5 Tornado.
