On this date (1/4) in 2000, Carlos Santana's 1999 comeback album "Supernatural" is nominated for, including album of the year.' This album included a series of songs with “current” stars. Interestingly, reviewer Jerry McCulley commented that the collaborations with a “lineup of de rigueur alternative and hip-hop stars” “feel like an unnecessary stretch to reach out to a younger demographic that El Jefe has little trouble attracting on his own terms”. The album went on to win 9 Grammys, including several of the collaborative songs (most notably “Smooth”, w/ Rob Thomas).
