Top 20 Concert Tours from Pollstar

The Top 20 Concert Tours ranks artists by average box office gross per city and includes the average ticket price for shows in North America. The previous week's ranking is in parentheses. The list is based on data provided to the trade publication Pollstar by concert promoters and venue managers.

TOP 20 CONCERT TOURS

1. Bon Jovi - first hit?  1984
2. Lady Gaga - first hit? 2008
3. Rod Stewart / Stevie Nicks - first hit? 1971 / 1975
4. Elton John- first hit? 1970
5. Kenny Chesney- first hit? 1995

3 of the Top 5 grossing acts are oldsters, over 25 years in the business.  Even Kenny Chesney is getting long in the tooth, over 15 years since he hit the scene.

Other old folks in the Top grosses:

6. George Strait (59 years old) / Reba (56 years old)/ Lee Ann Womack (45 years old)
8. Kid Rock - 40 years old
9. Jeff Dunham - 49 years old.
10 Rain — A Tribute To The Beatles - um, Beatles hit the scene in 1962.  John Paul George and Ringo were all born over 70 years ago...
12. James Taylor - 63 years old
13. Yanni - 57 years old
15. Robert Plant And The Band Of Joy - Plant is 63 years old.
17. Heart; (ann & Nancy are 57 and 561 years old).
19. Sarah McLachlan - a comparative youngster at 43

What gives?
Do all the young muscians stink?  Or is live music passe?  Or is it just that old folk can shell out insane amounts of money to relive their youth (up to $500/seat for Elton John, $250/seat for Rod Stewart)?
