Witchita Lineman. written by Jimmy Webb, and a hit for Glen Campbell in 1968. And covered by contless folk. Campbell's version peaked at #1 on the Country Charts, and #3 on the Pop Charts. More than 35 years later, it was ranked #192 on Rolling Stone's list of 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time. (Revised down to #195 on the 2011 version). It has been a favorite of mine since it was current.
I am a lineman for the county, And I drive the main road
Searchin' in the sun for another overload
Searchin' in the sun for another overload
I hear you singin' in the wire, I can hear you through the whine
And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line
And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line
I know I need a small vacation, But it don't look like rain
And if it snows that stretch Down South won't ever stand the strain
And if it snows that stretch Down South won't ever stand the strain
And I need you more than want you, And I want you for all time
And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line
And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line
And I need you more than want you, And I want you for all time
And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line
And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line
