OK, a little example of the effects of a polarizing filter, which the only filter I use. I like to think of polarizing filter as sunglasses for your camera; they cut glare, reduce reflections and can deepen colors. A
circular polarizer has 2 discs, and rotating them can adjust the effect.

i actually like both of them, tho the 2nd looks more like artwork and the 1st like a very good photo.
the 1st has the bright waters and the second give a more somber tone to the scene.

Actually, the un-polarized version here is more my type, but I was playing with how dramatic the effect could be. By rotating the filter, you can vary the effect. These are the extremes for this particular moment...
