Quote of the Day...

"Nobody, I think, ought to read poetry, or look at pictures or statues, who cannot find a great deal more in them than the poet or artist has actually expressed"
Hawthorne, The Marble Faun

wonderful quote! i have said that in different words quite often. it is the reason that a lot of my poem are left sort of vague. then the reader reads through the filters of their experiences. it's always surprising when i get an e-mail telling me what someone got from a poem and it wasn't what i had put in there, but what they had seen there. that pleases me because i've always been a fan of emotions over forms.

I actually thought of your poems when I read this, though I hope it applies to my photos as well.

It also applies to two experiences with poetry in High School / College, one positive, one negative, both long stories....
