Train Stuff....

A couple of close ups, of the undercarriage of the train we rode during our recent vacation:

GE, as is General Electric... This was on the engine, over the front wheels. Perhaps a brake assembly?

Blue Ridge Diesel, the sticker says. This was a motor hanging under the coach car (where we rode). I presume it was driving an electric generator, but not sure.....

Modern locomotives use electric traction motors. Essentially, the locomotive is a rolling deisel generator, supplying electricity to the motors that drive the train. GE is a huge player in railroad locomotion.
