Hummingbird Don't Fly Away Fly Away

I've been sitting here in my "family room", watching hummingbirds eat at the feeder, a mere 4 feet or so away. But, now it's after 8pm, it's deep dusk, and no chance of a photo. Pretty cool, though, I just put up the hummingbird feeder Sunday. We've had a several of them flitting about all evening. I'm definitely going to have to set up a photo-blind in front of the window. Some weekend when the wife is away, though!! Here's a crappy shot, all I could manage before it got too dark... I should clean the window, too.

my parents have hummingbirds at thier house every summer. there were humming birds here when i first moved here, but i took down my feeders because of marauding ants!
the birds don't have to go far for food tho, just down to beechwood farms. so, i don't feel too bad about the feeders here.
hummingbirds are macho little things. i had one buzz up to my face the one day because he didn't like me being too close to the feeder! he sounded like a bee's buzz.

Very cool, Sherry!! I don't think I ever saw a hummingbird when I lived in the Pittsburgh area (not too far from Beechwood farms!)...

i like beechwood. i could walk to there and then walk it and get some nice exercise, but, oh well, lazy and afraid of getting an SUV's fender up my ... no sidewalks!

I used to drive WAY WAY WAY too fast along Dorseyville Rd, I never would've expected a pedestrian.... But that was back in the late 70's. Interesting aside, I ran over a racoon just past Beechwood Farms back in 1980-ish. The only animal I've ever run over. It was about 4 in the morning, and I was headed home from a long night out (but not drinking). Rounded the bend and there he (she?) was, just staring at me. I think I had it "whoa-ed down" to about 45 before I hit it. It made a huge THUMP. I felt bad, but I'm pretty sure I killed it quick, at least. At least it wasn't a deer!

OK, that wasn't a very pleasant image....

there are always poor little dead critters on dorseyville road.

i am very careful driving home at night because of that.

there are tons of animals out here now, with all of the woods being developed they are practically living in my garage! there are coyotes behind my house!

and yes, they still drive like race drivers here, except when the grade school flashing sign is on, 90.00 and UP fine(as it should be)

i cringe as i try to exit my street onto dorseyville! i'm a nervous, scardy cat driver as is.
