Something Wicked This Way Comes

As a kid, back when I was probably between 10 and 13, I was a huge Ray Bradbury fan. Especially the short stories. Not long ago, I was doing some cleaning, and came across an old hard-back copy of R Is For Rocket. I just finished re-reading it, again. And enjoying it as much as ever. ranted, there's a kind of disconnect reading science fiction stories from the late 40's and 50's. Stories of the space age, written before the space age was on the drawing board. Stories I first read 30+ years ago... But I still love Bradbury's writing style, and will probably dig around the basement for some more musty gems. Maybe Dandelion Wine...

"Don't think. Thinking is the enemy of creativity. It's self-conscious and anything self-conscious is lousy. You can't try to do things. You simply must do things."
-Ray Bradbury

I haven't read any "old" science fiction in decades, maybe since high school. I wonder if it's like watching the early Star Trek episodes where the "high tech" of the future as imagined in that time looks so hokey now. The sci-fi movies of the fifties that had special effects that were considered amazing then, look so lame now. I'll have to read one of those old short stories to see if they've fared any better than the movies. Maybe the theater of the mind will help them endure better than the movies have.
